This haveli meaning old mansion was the residence of the then prime minister of Jaisalmer. This old mansion dates back to almost three centuries earlier. It was initally seven storeys high but was destroyed by the Maharaja of Jaisalmer as he did not want any building as high as the palace near it. There are six differnet flats inside and the ASI (Archeological Survey of India) has taken 2 flats. Residents still live in the other parts of the old mansion. This was named after Salim Singh so it is also known as Salim Singh ki Haveli in Jaisalmer.

 

When you enter, the arches are carved and have brackets in the shape of the national bird – peacock. Inside, there are paintings as well as mirror work of art and exquisite carvings also. Once of the flats have amazing paintings of various murals. Massive chambers and corridors also make an important part of the old mansion. There are several intricate carvings that you can see on the huge pillars. The haveli is in a tranquil place as it situated down near the hill.
